Last Friday we celebrated Midsummer. Earlier it was on the summer solstice day but they moved Midsummer´s Eve to the closest Friday. We celebrate with a flower decorated pole, maypole, and people is dancing around it. It is special songs with movements to the words. Some people think it is fun. My daughter hated it when she was a child. But becoming a mom she suddenly taught her own children the moves. Nowadays no one is doing it. I only went to take some shots for the blog and to get a little sunshine before dinner. There are special routines for food and drink as well.

ReplyDeleteI loved the video to go with the celebrations. We always celebrated mid-summer or St.John's night in Latvia too, only our celebrations were with a big fire and a barrel of tar on a big pole to cast light over all as well as home made cheese and beer as well as garlands of meadow flowers. We also wore our national costumes for the festivities.
